North Country Independent Living (NCIL) provides a wide variety of services and programs for people with disabilities in Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Sawyer and Washburn Counties.
CORE SERVICES –
* INFORMATION & REFERRAL: information about disability-related issues, resources and services to people with disabilities, families, professionals and the general public.
* PEER SUPPORT – Support to people with disabilities through the use of staff and trained volunteers who experience similar issues in daily living. Disability related support groups are also offered.
*INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING – Individuals or groups identify a goal or goals that they would like to work on, including budgeting, transportation, communication, health, socialization, and housing.
* ADVOCACY – self-advocacy or NCIL can engage in activities designed to affect positive change in local, state, and federal systems affecting persons with disabilities.
* TRANSITION SERVICES – designed to assist students with disabilities to reach measurable postsecondary goals.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES INCLUDE –
* ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY – provides information and help with assistive technology for all facets of independent living. NCIL’s WisTech Device Loan and Demonstration Program for adaptive equipment is available for persons with disabilities to “try out” and evaluate before seeking funding. Wisloan and Telework may be able to help qualified individuals with funding to acquire the technology they need.
* PUBLIC EDUCATION – Consultation, training, workshops, and presentations to groups, individuals, communities, and businesses, are offered to increase awareness of disability related issues and laws.
* ACCESSIBILITY – General information, or a referral to another resource, is provided over the phone on architectural accessibility guidelines for public buildings, private homes & private businesses.
* FEE FOR SERVICE – Includes benefits counseling and various assessment services.
* TRANSPORTATION – NCIL operates a Transportation Voucher program and a Volunteer Driver program; working with individuals, groups and agencies on improving access to transportation for everybody.
* PERSONAL CARE – Direct workers available in Douglas County only. The program can serve as trainer/screener/payroll agency for individuals in other counties once the individual has identified a caregiver and pay source.
